About the Festival: The Tampere Film Festival hosts approximately 400 short films across 100 screenings, welcoming around 700 industry professionals and 20,000 visitors. The festival provides a relaxed and intimate atmosphere for short film enthusiasts to watch acclaimed works and participate in specialized industry programs. As a member of the Short Film Conference (ISFC), this event serves as a premier platform for international cultural and cinematic exchange.
Awards & Categories: Awards are presented to the directors of selected works across three main sections:
- International Competition: Grand Prix: €5,000 + Festival Trophy / Three Category Prizes (Fiction, Animation, Documentary): €1,500 each / European Film Academy (EFA) Candidacy / Special Mentions and Audience Award.
- National Competition: Main Prize: €5,000 + Festival Trophy / Special Prizes: €1,500 / Youth Jury Prize, Special Mentions, and Audience Award.
- Genre Competition: Main Prize: €2,000 + Festival Trophy / Special Mentions and Audience Award.
Eligible Genres: Experimental, Animation, Fiction, Documentary; and for the Genre Competition: Thriller, Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, and Fantasy.
Running Time:
- International & Genre Sections: Maximum 30 minutes (including credits).
- National Section: Two series (Series 1: up to 30 minutes; Series 2: over 30 minutes, with fiction films not exceeding 60 minutes).
Production Year:Produced after January 1, 2025.
Language & Subtitles:All works must be in English or include English subtitles. (For the National Competition, subtitles must be provided in both English and Finnish).
Submission Deadlines:
- International & Genre Sections: November 3, 2026.
- National Section: December 1, 2026.
Terms & Conditions:
- Each film may be submitted only once. A premiere is not required. Submissions must be finished productions.
- Early Bird (€16), Regular (€18), and Final (€20). All fees are non-refundable.
- The filmmaker is responsible for all copyrights. By submitting, the filmmaker commits to providing the film for screening should it be selected.
- Selected films may be showcased on the festival’s online platform (geoblocked to Finland) or within the Online Film Library (for accredited professional guests), unless specific restrictions are communicated by the filmmaker.
- The festival does not pay screening fees for competitive entries. However, it provides accommodation for one representative for three nights (International and Genre sections) or two nights (National section).
- In any unforeseen cases, the final decision rests with the festival. Submission of an entry constitutes full acceptance of all festival regulations.
