Roof of Paradise at the Fajr Visual Arts Festival

Roof of Paradise Selected for the 4th Fajr International Visual Arts Festival

The documentary Roof of Paradise, directed by Mehdi Yarmohammadi, will be screened in the documentary section of the 4th Fajr International Visual Arts Festival.

Taking an experimental approach, the documentary begins with an introduction to the origins of Persian calligraphy before focusing on the Moalla script and the process through which it was created by Master Hamid Ajami.

The film explores the Moalla script, its distinctive characteristics, formal structure, and the philosophy behind its creation. Narrated by Hamid Ajami—contemporary calligrapher and creator of the Moalla script—it traces the script’s development from its inception to the staging of the Roof of Paradise exhibition, which featured 114 artworks of the phrase “Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim” (“In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful”), corresponding to the 114 chapters of the Holy Quran.
