“Zemestan Ast” (It Is Winter) in the Semi-Finals of ELCHE

The short film “Zemestan Ast” (It Is Winter), directed by Sepideh Mirhosseini, has made it into the semi-final section of the thirty-ninth edition of the ELCHE festival in Spain.
The film, distributed and presented by the Independent Short Film Support Base, has to date received awards including: Best Film on the Theme of Respect for Humanity at the Fifth Independent Khorshid Film Festival, as well as Best Film, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Makeup at the Second Edition of the Sahar Festival in Manchester, England.
The film portrays the cold, distant relationships within a three-person family, as the son tries to sacrifice himself in an attempt to save them. Following its appearances at the Independent Khorshid Film Festival, the Kimiai Free Workshop Festival, the Image of the Year Celebration, the SHORT FILM CORNER at the Cannes Film Festival in France, the Sahar Festival in Manchester, England, and the KINOLUB Festival in Poland, it is now making its fourth international appearance in the semi-final section of the ELCHE festival in Spain.
This independent international film festival is organized by the Mediterranean Foundation Caja, and is held with the aim of providing a cultural space for filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts — committed to promoting culture, championing emerging cinematic values, focusing on innovation, and creating opportunities for dialogue and connection between writers and filmmakers.
Despite keeping pace with new technologies, the festival has never lost sight of its roots or its commitment to achieving the highest possible quality within whatever formats technology permits — which is why the only accepted format in competition is high-definition video. In this spirit, the ELCHE International Independent Film Festival has been selected by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to screen nominees at the thirty-first edition of the Goya Awards for Best Short Film.
This year, a new section has been introduced — a Mobile Film Award — open to all those who have made productions using smartphones, tablets, and similar devices. Furthermore, throughout its history, the ELCHE International Independent Film Festival has had the honor of welcoming some of Spain’s most distinguished cinema figures, including Fernando Fernán Gómez, Julieta Serrano, Sancho Gracia, Juan Diego, and others — a source of great pride for the festival.
It is worth noting that the thirty-ninth edition of the ELCHE festival in Spain will be held from July 15 to 22, 2016, in Elche, Spain.
