Among the films submitted by the Independent Short Film Support Base to the VOICES FROM THE WATERS festival in India, the short film “Haft Salam”, directed by Mahdi Yarmohammadi, has made it into the competition section of the tenth edition of this festival.
“Haft Salam” is an experimental documentary film about the ritual of preparing saffron holy water (Ab-e Do’a) used to bless the Haft Sin table during the Nowruz New Year celebrations, as practiced by the people of the Shahrood region in Semnan Province.
The film, distributed by the Independent Short Film Support Base, has already made its mark in the main competition sections of festivals including: Religion Today (Italy), ZIFF (Canada), the Slovenian Ethnographic Film Festival, Eco Ethno Folk (Romania), INSIGHT (Manchester), KAN AMATEUR (Poland), Iranian Films Yari (Sweden), and more — and is simultaneously competing at the Nowruz-related film festival in Manchester, England.
The tenth edition of the VOICES FROM THE WATERS festival, with a focus on water and water-related issues, is organized by the Bangalore Film Society in India. The festival screens short fiction, documentary, and animation films, as well as feature-length films on topics including: water scarcity, dams and the devastation they cause, water harvesting and conservation, water conflicts and struggles, floods and drought, global warming and climate change, water, sanitation and public health, river pollution, comprehensive water restoration, and more.
