About the Residency: This artist residency program is built around the three principles of “Explore, Create, Exhibit.” Within this program, 13 international artists from diverse social and geographical backgrounds receive curatorial support and technical assistance while developing their work within a dynamic artistic community. At the same time, artists become acquainted with a new culture and perspective and draw inspiration from Berlin’s contemporary cultural environment.
The in-person residency takes place in a historic building, originally designed as a school, located in the heart of Berlin’s Kreuzberg district.
Fees:
- Residency fee: €750 per month. Studio rent is the same regardless of studio size. This fee includes use of the studio, fully equipped shared kitchens, bathrooms, and the residency garden. For artist couples applying together, the monthly rent is €950.
- Program fee: €1,650 per three-month term, payable one month before arrival.
- Security deposit: €1,000. This payment is required to reserve the studio and confirm participation in the program. The deposit will be returned within a maximum of 30 days after the artist’s residency has ended and they have vacated the studio, provided that the studio is returned in its original condition.
Additional Information:
- One-to-one curatorial meetings: Artists may meet individually with the resident curator. These meetings offer professional perspectives and feedback on the development of their artistic practice and project, and artists may schedule them as often as they wish.
- Technical support: The resident technician provides assistance and advice for project implementation, artwork installation in the Showcase Window, and preparation for Open Studios.
- Equipment and tools: Artists have access to equipment and tools available at the residency, including basic tools, woodworking tools, and multimedia equipment such as projectors and displays.
- External curator visit: Each term, an external curator is invited to visit every artist’s studio and provide feedback and advice in preparation for the Open Studios.
- Activities and events program: Artists may participate in workshops focused on the professionalization of artistic documentation, including artist CVs, portfolios, and artist statements. Visits and tours of various institutions and galleries are also organized with the residency curator.
