About the Festival: The Independent and Experimental Film Festival of Kerala was founded in 2017 as a crowdfunded cinematic event. The festival’s fundamental aim is to promote independent and experimental cinema from across the globe. It functions as a cinematic community-a space where radical and individual cinematic voices are brought together, discussed, and honored. The festival serves as a platform for challenging innovative perspectives and preserving artistic independence against commercial structures.
Awards:
- Bioscope Award for Best Film: INR 50,000 (divided equally between the director and producer).
- Bioscope Award for Second Best Film: INR 20,000.
- Specialized Awards: Best Director, Best Script, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Music, Best Performance.
- Note: The trophy accompanying the awards will only be presented to those who attend the festival in person.
Accepted Genres:All video works, including fiction, documentary, video art, and music videos.
Running Time: Works under 40 minutes (Fiction and Documentary).
Production Date: Works must have been produced within the last 24 months.
Language & Subtitles:All works must include English subtitles.
Submission Deadline:September 3, 2026
Additional Terms:
- Technical Requirements: Downloadable files (MP4) must be provided for the screening process.
- Screening Fees: The festival does not pay screening fees for selected or non-selected films.
- Attendance & Support: No travel or accommodation support is provided for participating filmmakers.
- Withdrawal: Selected films cannot be withdrawn by the filmmaker.
- Finality: The decisions of the selection committee and the jury are final and not subject to appeal.
