About the Festival: FIKTIVA is a media art festival in Düsseldorf that brings together film, video art, performance art, and visual arts. Through an artistic trail, the festival aims to disrupt the daily urban routine in Düsseldorf’s Old Town, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. This artistic journey exposes visitors and passersby to works and activities by various international artists, offering an opportunity to experience the presence and impact of contemporary art within the urban fabric.
Awards:By participating in the festival, filmmakers will have the opportunity to showcase their work to a dynamic and engaged audience in Düsseldorf’s Old Town. Screenings can take place in indoor or outdoor spaces, with the choice depending on the nature of the work, the number of participants, and the scope and complexity of the performance. The filmmaker’s work will receive attention from members of participating collectives and partners of the festival and will be discussed in specialized sessions and dialogues. Furthermore, the filmmaker’s work will be part of the first media art festival in Düsseldorf’s Old Town and will be featured on websites highlighting the city’s significant cultural activities—a city renowned as one of Europe’s foremost art centers. Selected works will also receive support and promotion from a platform dedicated to introducing and expanding art beyond Europe’s borders. Accommodation and travel expenses for participants will be covered by the festival.

Additional Notes:The festival’s core concept is built around the idea of an “artistic trail.” Presenting artworks in the streets of the Old Town, offering free admission, and ensuring the festival’s inclusivity for all social groups without age restrictions provide a new and distinct experience for many audiences. The festival’s objective is to foster and strengthen friendly and social interactions between artists and visitors, creating a platform for direct connection. Only applications demonstrating a justifiable and logical connection between the artwork (including film art, video art, visual arts, performance/theatrical presentations) and the city of Düsseldorf or the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will be considered.
