13th Valencia Festival Opens Call for Abstract Video Art Works

About the Festival: The 13th International EIVV Meeting in Valencia, Spain, and the 18th International Burgundy Festival in France have launched a joint call for submissions. Although the call is shared, each festival will maintain its own independent selection and curatorial process. Submitted works will be reviewed separately for inclusion in each festival’s program, both of which take place in the fall.
Theme and Eligibility: Only abstract, non-narrative video art works are eligible for submission. Entries containing any of the following elements will be deemed ineligible:
- Figurative or representational content, including recognizable people, characters, or objects.
- Character-driven narratives.
- Dialogue-based storytelling.
Awards: Selection for the festival is considered the award itself, as the acceptance rate is approximately 1% or lower.

Additional Information: Each submission undergoes a rigorous curatorial review based primarily on the following criteria: Artistic quality / Innovative use of choreo-cinematographic language – a creative integration of movement and cinematic expression.
Selected artists and works will be presented through dedicated curatorial texts. In addition, the festival may organize talks and discussions featuring participating artists and curators, providing audiences with deeper insight into the artworks and the creative processes behind them.
In abstract video art, the moving image is not used to represent reality but rather as raw material for constructing an audiovisual composition. These moving images may originate from a variety of sources, including: Live-action footage / Animation / Digital transformations and image processing / Illustration and digitally generated imagery
The primary expressive elements of abstract video art include: Rhythm / Color / Light / Texture / Visual structure
Together, these elements create what may be described as a choreography of image and sound- a dynamic and harmonious interplay of visuals and audio, of which – visual music is one of the most distinctive forms.
