“Why Flies Shouldn’t Be Killed” at STIFF

The animated short film “Why Flies Shouldn’t Be Killed”, directed by Farhad Alizadeh and represented by the Independent Short Film Support Center, has been selected to screen at the STIFF International Film Festival in Croatia.
The festival takes place from May 28 to 30, 2014, in Croatia and is dedicated entirely to student films.
The festival’s primary goal is to present the best student film productions to audiences in Rijeka, particularly students. It also seeks to strengthen the local film and video industry by exposing participants to the work of other filmmakers, encouraging and developing new ideas, and fostering international collaboration in media production.
Out of more than 600 films submitted from around the world, only 44 student films were selected for the festival’s main competition, which is held at Art Cinema Croatia. In addition, a parallel program featuring experimental film and video art is presented at the SKC Gallery and the Palach Cultural Center.
The festival jury consists of a film critic, a film theorist and professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and another critic and lecturer from the same faculty. The jury will select and award prizes for Best Film, Best Director, Best Editor, and Best Cinematographer. Festival audiences will also vote for the Audience Award for Best Film.
As part of the festival’s educational program, a five-day film criticism workshop will be held for ten students. The best works produced during the workshop will be published on the festival’s official website.
